Health Connect

Health Connect is Android's shared health data store. GymRats reads your workouts from it, and most Android apps and watches write to it.

On a Samsung phone or watch, connect Samsung Health instead — that's the route we recommend for Samsung devices. Samsung Health can reach GymRats through Health Connect as well, but only use that route if Samsung Health won't connect. Never leave both active at once. See Samsung Health.

Connecting Health Connect to GymRats

  1. In GymRats, open the side menu → My Connections.

  2. Choose Health Connect.

  3. When the permission screen opens, select Allow all.

  4. Turn on the Active toggle.

To change permissions later: open Health Connect (Settings → Apps → Health Connect on most phones) → App permissions → GymRats → Allow all.

Which apps reach GymRats this way

Strava, Zepp (Amazfit) and Mi Fitness (Xiaomi) all write to Health Connect. Connect them to Health Connect in their own settings, then connect Health Connect to GymRats — you don't need a separate connection in GymRats for each one.

Samsung Health writes to Health Connect too, but on a Samsung device connect Samsung Health directly rather than going through Health Connect.

Using Samsung? Connect Samsung Health instead

Samsung Health is the connection we recommend on Samsung phones and watches. If both Samsung Health and Health Connect are active in My Connections, the same workout can become two check-ins — so turn Samsung Health on and leave Health Connect inactive.

If you're not sure which one is currently feeding your check-ins, start a new check-in → From device, see which of the two is showing your most recent workout, and leave Active on only that one. See Samsung Health.

If Health Connect stopped syncing with GymRats

  1. Check that Health Connect shows as Active in My Connections, and that every permission is granted in the Health Connect app.

  2. Open Health Connect and look for the workout itself. If it isn't there, GymRats can't see it — the problem is between your watch or fitness app and Health Connect, so fix that side first.

  3. Android may pause GymRats to save battery, which stops sync: Settings → Apps → GymRats → Battery → Unrestricted.

  4. Open GymRats after your workout. Your check-in is only published once you open the app. See About Auto-Sync.
