Why was I asked for payment when downloading a free app?

We understand this can be confusing and we want to help clear things up. If you were asked to enter a credit card or make a payment while trying to download our app, please know that this charge did not come from us. Our app is free to download and use. We do offer an optional premium subscription for additional features, but it is never required, and you would not be charged for it without explicitly signing up.

So what happened?

When you download any app from the Apple App Store — even a free one — Apple may ask you to enter or update your payment information if your Apple Account has an outstanding balance or past-due charges. These charges are completely unrelated to the app you're downloading. They may come from previous App Store or iTunes purchases, subscription renewals, storage plans, or other Apple services.

In other words, Apple is using the download as an opportunity to collect on a balance you already owe them. The payment prompt is coming from Apple, not from us.

What can GymRats do about it?

Unfortunately, because this charge is between you and Apple, our team is unable to issue a refund or modify it in any way. We don't receive any of that payment, and we have no access to your Apple billing account.

How to resolve this

Go to apple.com/bill to see the charges on your Apple Account. From there you can review your purchase history and resolve any outstanding balance. If you need additional help, contact Apple Support directly.
